Colm "Wooly" Parkinson has responded on Twitter to a question put to him regarding the structure of the Laois championship. Wooly had Kerry and Rathmore star Paul Murphy this week on his podcast. The pair were discussing the current format of the Kerry championship and the cut-throat nature of the biggest GAA competition in the Kingdom.
Closer to home, the Laois football championship is seen within and outside the county as one of the best structures for a championship in the country. The knockout nature of the competition with no second chances after round two means that every game has an edge to it. However, it has come under scrutiny in recent years. It is widely believed that the level of performance of clubs in the championship has had a knock-on effect on how the county team has performed in the summer months.
Wooly was asked in the comments on the clip to give his thoughts on the Laois Championship. The Portlaoise responded to the comment by saying that he would like to see the number of teams in the championship reduced to twelve teams, two groups of six each getting five championship games.
