The First-Year football team from Portlaoise CBS were crowned Leinster B football champions last Thursday March 30. The lads defeated Cnoc Mhuire Granard of Longford by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 2-11 to 3-7.
The half time score was 2-5 to 1-4 with Longford claiming the lead at the break but Portlaoise CBS came out into the second half with all guns blazing and pulled the game back to a draw. It was point for point for the final quarter and in the dying minutes in what could only be described as dramatic fashion, David Timmons kicked a point to put the CBS ahead. The ref deemed there was time for one last attack from Cnoc Mhuire and a goal chance arose but CBS full-back, Jack Dowling cleared the ball off the line. Within seconds, the final whistle blew and the CBS had won the game.
Scorers - Jayden Murphy 1-3, David Timmons 0-4, Shane Carroll 1-0, Callum Devoy 0-2, Leon Davis 0-1.
