Laois footballers hoping to catch The Dubs on the hop

The Laois senior footballers will be hoping they can pull off the shock of all shocks as they face Dublin in the Leinster Football Championship. The sides meet at the quarter-final stage with their last championship meet coming in the semi-finals in 2020. Dublin running out convincing winners in the end as they recorded a 2-23 to 0-7 victory over Laois in Croke Park.

A loss for Billy Sheehan and his Laois side will see them enter the Tailteann Cup, the second tier All-Ireland. Laois were beaten in Round 1 of the Tailteann Cup by the eventual champions Westmeath in 2022.

Laois come into the game off the back of a first-round win over Wexford as they had four points to spare over their fellow Division 4 rivals. Mark Barry was in inspired form as the O'Dempsey's man kicked 2-4 with only the crossbar denying him a hat-trick late on.

A huge crowd is expected to descend on Portlaoise as the Dubs leave their usual spot of Croke Park for their annual trip away from the capital for the quarter-finals. The winners on Sunday will face either Kildare or Wicklow in the semi-final.

Laois haven't beaten Dublin in championship football since 2003 as Mick O'Dwyer beat Dublin in Croke Park in the semi-final. They would go on to win the Leinster Championship that year after dispatching of Kildare in the decider.

The game throws-in at 3.30pm and tickets can be bought here. The game can also be viewed on GAAGO.
