The last time Laois had home advantage to Dublin in the Leinster Championship the game was played in Kilkenny because O'Moore Park was deemed to be too small
A traffic plan has been agreed by Gardai, Laois GAA and the contractor working on the N77 Abbeyleix Road for the Laois and Dublin Leinster Championship Game in Portlaoise.
With thousands of fans due to flock to Portlaoise, Dublin and Laois fans are being advised to follow the signs and allow additional time to get parked and into Laois Hire O’Moore Park.
Senior Engineer with Laois County Council, Paul McLoughlin said a plan is in place Sunday's Leinster Gaelic Football Quarter final game.
He outlined the details to the Leinster Express / Laois Live.
“Those travelling by car are requested to follow the VMS (Variable Message Signs) boards and diversion signage which will be in place on the day and to only park in designated areas,” he said.
“Patrons should allow themselves additional time to ensure they arrive in time to park appropriately and make their way to the ground in ample time to enjoy the match,” he added.
Mr O’Loughiln said there are approximately 3,000 parking spaces available within a 15 to 20-minute walk of Laois Hire O’Moore Park.
Gardai issued detailed instructions to those planning to attend the match in O'Moore Park on Sunday.
Work has commenced in Portlaoise on a major overhaul of the Abbeyleix which is the main access route to the Laois stadium from the M7 motorway.
The road is traditionally used by fans going to matches for parking, however such facility is set to be restricted as long as the works continue.
The match on Sunday, April 23 throws in at 3:30pm.
