Laois Senior hurling manager Willie Maher has seen his right-hand men Dan Shanahan and Eamon Jackman found to have breached Riail 7.2 (c), Category II (a), T.O. 2023, that is to say, “Abusive language towards a referee”.
The incident was believed to have occurred in Laois' Joe McDonagh Cup game against Carlow on April 22, a game in which Laois had led by seven points with Carlow awarded a late dubious penalty to level the game. Both coaches weren't present on the sideline for Laois' victory against Kildare last weekend.
The Central Hearings Committee imposed the following penalty:
The pair were both handed a four weeks’ suspension together with a one match suspension in the same code and at the same level, applicable to the next game in the combination of National League/Inter-County Senior Championship, even if that game occurs in the following year.
Laois are set to face Kerry in Austin Stacks Park on Saturday May 13 at 5.30pm in a winner takes all game to see who gets to the Joe McDonagh final, providing Carlow don't defeat Offaly.
