Noel Brennan and his Laois Camogie team will get their Glen Dimplex All-Ireland campaign underway on Saturday evening as they travel to Trim GAA to take on Meath in Round 1.
Laois are still placed at the Intermediate grade despite their relegation to the Premier Junior grade by Kildare last summer. The Camogie board informed Noel Brennan and his side that they felt Laois were too strong for Premier Junior grade even though they got relegated.
They played in Division 2A of the Very Camogie leagues, a division made of up Intermediate teams. Laois unfortunately lost all five games in the league. As well as that, Laois' average age of the team is 19 while there are seven girls due to sit their Leaving Certificate, with fixtures down to be played throughout the course of the State Examinations.
Laois were narrowly beaten in the Leinster Intermediate Championship as they couldn't shrug off the challenge of Carlow as they lost out after extra-time.
Meath come into the All-Ireland series with a league final under their belt as they narrowly lost out to Kerry by a single point in the decider. Kerry will join Meath and Laois in Group 3 with Westmeath being the other side. Kerry face a trip to TEG Cusack Park to take on Westmeath tomorrow afternoon at 2pm.
Brennan will be boosted by the returning Minor camogie players who were defeated by Roscommon in the All-Ireland final at the beginning of the month.
Laois versus Meath throws-in at 5pm in Trim GAA on Saturday May 27. Tickets for the game can be bought here.
