The experience of Mayo in Gaelic Football is set to be explored in an upcoming psychology talk in Portarlington.

Performance Anxiety in Sport talks for Teens is the name of the talk to be given by Keith Begley an Sport Ireland Accredited sport psychologist.

"This interesting session will be relevant for parents and sports people alike and will explain how to deal with performance anxiety and nervousness in sport and life, while it will also look at and explain the 'Mayo Phenomenon' in GAA," say the organisers.

Mayo is one of the most successful counties in Gaelic games, especially at Gaelic football. However, the county has not won a senior All-Ireland Football title since the 1950s despite several All-Ireland final appearances since then.

The talk in the Laois Offaly town will include a Q&A afterwards with Keith who has worked with numerous successful inter-county GAA teams and high-performance athletes.

The event on Wednesday, October 11 is free but but booking is necessary. To secure your place call 057 8643751 or email portarlingtonlibrary@laoiscoco.ie. It gets underway at 7pm.
