Portlaoise GAA fans face fixture dilemma as Ladies county final set to clash with hurlers semi-final

Portlaoise GAA fans face fixture dilemma as Ladies county final set to clash with hurlers semi-final

Portlaoise GAA supporters will have a big decision to make this coming Saturday as the Ladies Senior county final is due to throw-in at the same time as their Premier Intermediate Hurling semi-final against Rathdowney-Errill.

The Portlaoise hurlers have been waiting almost two months to play their Premier Intermediate semi-final after Rathdowney-Errill and Clonaslee St Manman's had to play three times to get the right result on the day. Their first clash had to be brought to a replay after it was understood that referee Pat Phelan had recorded the wrong scoreline while their second game was abandoned after 21 minutes with Jordie Kavanagh sustaining a serious leg injury, which required an ambulance to be called. Rathdowney-Errill eventually got over the line against Clonaslee St Manman's last weekend with Portlaoise's last game having been played on Thursday, August 17.

For one family in particular, they'll have to divide themselves up with Alison Taylor due to play in the Ladies final while her two brothers Cian and Sean Luke take to the field in O'Moore Park.

The Ladies side will face St Conleth's in the final after The Town got the better of Timahoe in Rathleague on Saturday. After their victory, nobody knew as to when or where the game was to be played with a short turnaround to the final. Their game is now due to take place on Saturday, October 7 in Stradbally GAA at 4.30pm while Portlaoise and Rathdowney-Errill takes place in Laois Hire O'Moore Park. The Portlaoise Junior Ladies team also have a county final to look forward to as they take on Crettyard on Saturday at 12 in Park-Ratheniska.
