The Laois hurlers will get their season underway this evening as they welcome Offaly to the Centre of Excellence for the opening game in this year's Walsh Cup. The sides are in joined in Group 3 by Galway.
Laois boss Willie Maher has named an experienced side for the clash of the Midlands neighbours with two youngsters handed their Senior debuts in the form of Camross' Tom Cuddy and Borris-Kilcotton's Jer Quinlan. Both of them were members of the Laois Minor team that gave Laois GAA fans a night to remember as they reached the Leinster final in 2022 but lost out to Offaly in a full-house in Laois Hire O'Moore Park.
There's also a welcome return for Clough-Ballacolla's Lee Cleere who returns having been in Australia. Another Clough-Ballacolla hurler Diarmuid Conway is named on the bench following his time in London last year. Laois' midfield partnership for tonight's game was the same midfield which captured the Joe McDonagh Cup in 2019. Rathdowney-Errill's Paddy Purcell and Rosenallis' John Lennon make up Laois' midfield for tonight.

Laois and Offaly throws-in at 7.30pm in the LOETB Centre of Excellence in Portlaoise on Thursday, January 4.
