Laois have cemented their place at the top of Division 4 with a comfortable victory over Wexford in Chadwicks Wexford Park this evening.Justin McNulty's side were dominant all over the field and were worthy winners in the end.

Wexford 0-12

Laois got the ball rolling with four scores unanswered to get the game off to the best start. Brian Byrne opened the scoring before Portlaoise's Kevin Swayne also raised a white flag. Laois goalkeeper Killian Roche opened his tally for the contest with a free while Courtwood's Niall Dunne made it four points to nil after 10 minutes.

Wexford's first score didn't come until the 12th minute as Glen Malone split the posts. Darragh Lyons got Wexford's second point soon after. Portlaoise's Damon Larkin, who fired in 1-2 against Longford, kicked over two quick-free scores as Laois remained in control.

Sean Nolan put Wexford within three points of Laois before Justin McNulty's side raised three white flags without reply. Larkin was fouled with Evan O'Carroll pointing the resulting free. Laois got another two scores from placed balls as Killian Roche kicked a 45' and a free, Laois led 0-9 to 0-3 after 20 minutes. Laois' 45' had come from a great interception when O'Carroll was through on goals.

The next few scores were traded as Ben Brosnan pointed a free for the home side while Evan O'Carroll scored from play. Laois probably should have had a goal as Mark Barry saw his effort dribble past the upright. Glen Malone pointed to leave it at double scores, 0-10 to 0-15, but then Laois struck for goal. Niall Corbet played the ball into Shaun Fitzpatrick who made no mistake with his finish beyond Rory Turbitt. O'Carroll got his third point of the game before half-time with Wexford's Glen Malone getting the half's final score as Laois led 1-11 to 0-6 at the break.

Laois began the second period with points from Roche (45') and Mark Barry. Barry's score came after he sold his marker a lovely dummy before slotting the ball between the posts. Richie Waters and Ben Dempsey swapped points before Kevin O'Grady and a 45' from Eoghan Nolan reduced Laois' lead to eight points. Richie Waters pointed again for Wexford while Shaun Fitzpatrick added to his earlier goal with a Laois score in the 61st minute having gone scoreless since the 50th minute.

Fitzpatrick added a second point to accompany his goal while Evan O'Carroll took his tally to four points. Shane Pettit got a point back for Wexford before Simon Fingleton raised a white flag on his league debut for Laois. Padraic Hughes and Roche traded scores as the Laois shot-stopper finished with another five points to his name.

Laois winning out 1-19 to 0-12 and they'll now have a week off before a top of the table clash with Carlow on Saturday, February 17 in Laois Hire O'Moore Park.
