Portlaoise GAA Club is holding a David Brown Remembrance Day, ahead of the first anniversary of the death of the much loved young football and hurling player.
The talented Laois player died in a tragic quad bike accident on Easter Sunday April 9, 2023, aged just 15, to the deep grief of his family, club, friends, schoolmates and wider community.
The remembrance day will take place in Portlaoise GAA grounds in Rossleighan on Easter Sunday, March 31, from 11am to 2pm.
Chairperson Eamonn Fennelly told the Leinster Express / Laois Live about it.
“David's death was probably one of the most traumatic events for our club and the town of Portlaoise.
“The Brown family are massive in our club. Conor and Sarah are both players and James is just immersed in it.
“David was such a great player for us, he was a star coming through, in hurling and football. It has been absolutely a really tough year.
“We are working with the family on this day.
“In time we will commemorate David properly but for now we just want to provide some comfort with his family,” he said.
More details of events on the Remembrance Day are shortly to be announced.
“There'll be some exhibition games, and a walk, and more but we'll share that as we build up to it,” Eamonn Fennelly said.
The club say that the people of Laois and Portlaoise who were all impacted by the tragedy, are all welcomed to come along on the day.
