Laois U-20 hurlers dumped out of the Leinster Championship after Offaly hammering

Laois have been knocked out of this year's U20 Leinster Hurling Championship after Offaly obliterated Damien Carter's side in Glenisk O'Connor Park Tullamore this evening.

Offaly 1-28

Laois 2-9

Offaly raced into an early six-point lead after five minutes as they took the game to Laois from the off. Colin Spain and Shane Rigney got two points in the opening minute before Barry Egan scored a sublime score from the sideline at a tight angle. Spain added to his tally moments later as Adam Screeney opened his account with points from a free and from play.

Jer Quinlan got Laois' first point after five minutes as Offaly would soon have their seventh and eighth points as Dan Bourke and Spain (sideline) pointed to give Offaly a huge advantage early on. Tommy Brennan got Laois' second point but Offaly just kept coming at Laois and led by seven points after a point from Shane Rigney. Laois hit two scores on the trot courtesy of Cody Comerford and Colin Byrne.

Offaly would hit the front yet again with seven points unanswered as Screeney got six of those with three being from placed balls. Dan Bourke also added to his tally as Offaly led 0-16 to 0-4 after 26 minutes. Laois' first goal followed as Cormac Byrne got on the end of a Cormac Hogan hand-pass to raise a green flag. Offaly ended the half with points from Screeney (free) and Bourke as the home side led 0-18 to 1-4 at the break.

Laois came out firing in the second-half and their first score ended up in the back of the net as Cormac Byrne got his second goal of the contest. Cormac Hogan added to Laois' tally but there were still seven points separating the sides. Shane Rigney and Hogan traded points before Offaly made sure it would be them that would progress into a Leinster semi-final. Screeney hit five scores on the bounce as Laois just couldn't lay a glove on their Offaly counterparts. Cormac Byrne raised a white flag to add to his two goals but Offaly would reply with a goal of their own.

Bourke made no mistake with his finish as he drilled the ball into the top of net. Rigney and Alex Kavanagh added to Offaly's advantage and they would soon have a man advantage as Tom Cuddy was sent off for two yellow cards. Screeney pointed yet another free with Laois' Cody Comerford and James Cuddy (free)getting a score. The game's final score came courtesy of Kavanagh as Offaly won by 16 points in the end.
