Laois Camogie fire nine goals past Mayo to continue winning run in Premier Junior Championship

Robert Jones and Pat Collier’s Laois camogie side have made it three wins from three in this year’s All-Ireland Premier Junior Championship after they fired nine goals past Mayo in Castlebar on Saturday afternoon. Laois came into the game off the back of two superb victories over Limerick and Cavan.

Andrea Scully and Lillian Keane traded the opening two scores before Tara Lowry and Grainne Delaney pushed Laois in front. Aisling O’Dea rattled the Mayo net with the home side replying with a goal of their courtesy of Emer Delaney. Scully got her second point of the game as did Mayo’s Keane with a second free. Laois ended the half with a further three goals and a point. Eimear Hassett scored 1-1 with Kirsten Keenan and Ellen Conroy both raising a green flag each.

Camross’ Keenan got her second goal to kick off the second period but Laois never let up on the scoreboard as they kept putting the ball over the bar and into the Mayo net. Nine points followed for Laois as Delaney (four), Hassett, O’Dea, Scully, Conroy and Grainne Hyland all added a point each to Laois’ tally. Four more green flags were raised as Keenan completed her hat-trick meanwhile Lowry, O’Dea and Amy Flanagan also got in on the act. Flanagan scored the game’s final point as Laois ran out convincing winners in the end.

They’ll face Roscommon this Saturday, June 29 in Round Four where a win would see them seal a semi-final spot.
