The Laois Camogie team have suffered All-Ireland final heartache in the cruellest way possible after Tipperary scored a last-minute free from Jenny Grace to be crowned Premier Junior champions in Croke Park.
Laois had given themselves a great platform for victory when they went 1-5 to 0-1 just before half-time but that's when Tipperary woke up and Laois weren't able to get the ball over the bar when they needed it.
Tipperary 0-12
Laois 1-8
Laois got off to a flying start as they led two points to no score after four minutes. The first score came from Grainne Delaney after Clodagh Tynan's free ended up in her grasp and the Camross forward split the posts. Eimear Hassett showed great determination for Laois' second point as she made a great hook and then put the sliotar between the posts.
Tipperary got their first score courtesy of their free-taker Jenny Grace with six minutes played. Laois were then awarded a penalty as Hassett's superb pass found Susie Delaney, who was fouled in the square. Laois' taliswoman Aimee Collier took the penalty but struck her effort straight at Laura Leenane. The ball eventually fell to Susie Delaney and the Portlaoise forward drilled the ball into the Tipperary net.
Collier made up for her penalty miss a minute later as she opened her account with a score from play. Laois were guilty of hitting some sloppy wides for scores that you would normally see go over for this Laois team. Laois' fourth point was a well-worked team score which started with Aoife Finlay winning the ball in the Laois square and ended with Collier getting a second point. Aisling O'Dea pointed to make it 1-5 to 0-1 after 25 minutes.
Tipperary ended the half the better of the two sides as they got three points in the final five minutes. Grace pointed two frees while substitute Eva O'Dwyer score after coming on for Jill-Anne Quirke. Laois held a four-point advantage at the break, 1-5 to 0-4.
The Premier Country put the foot to the floor in the opening minutes of the second half as Grace Maloney found herself in a goal scoring position, but Lowry kept it out of the net with O’Dwyer hitting the rebound over the bar. Two frees came soon after from stick of Grace. Collier and Grace then traded frees before Grace converted two more nudging Tipp ahead by one.
Collier split the post to bring the game all square before Susie Delaney pointed an outstanding score from under the Cusack Stand to give Laois the advantage. Anna Fahie levelled the game in the 62nd minute before Jenny Grace won the game with the final puck from a free.
