Sean Moore was Ballyfin’s saviour as they ran out deserving winners at the expense of Ballylinan to secure their senior status for 2025.
Moore was in an unstoppable mood and led his side to victory and ended up with 2-12 to his name.
Ballyfin 2-18
Ballylinan 0-5
He was aided by the experienced James Finn who dominated the skies throughout. Darragh Connolly also put in a match winning performance as his electric pace was a feature of the game as he set up attack after attack for the victors.
The loss for Ballylinan ends a woeful year and will play intermediate football in 2025 who had no answer to Ballyfin and cannot have any complaints about the result.
Ballyfin came out of the traps fast and within ten minutes it looked bleak for Ballylinan as Ballyfin threatened to run riot.
Moore opened the scoring with a free and then doubled the lead straight away after he caught a superb mark and pointed from it.
He then hit the next two points one a hand passed effort along with another point, after Connolly ran straight at the defence and got off his shot but to be denied by the crossbar with Moore pointing the rebound.
Adam Connolly added another point from play for Ballyfin to move five clear. Ballylinan had to wait for the 14th minute before they got on the scoreboard with Andrew McEvoy pointing.
Once again Moore and Darragh Connolly combined for another Ballyfin point. Cathail Dunne got a much-neededpoint from a mark, but Moore once again responded for his side.
Ballylinan were given a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty after Dunne was fouled but Gary Walsh stepped up and blazed his shot high and wide which was his last act in the 20th minute as he went off injured straight after.
Connolly and Moore continued to wreak havoc with further points. Conor Quinn added his first of the night and it was a long way back for Ballylinan especially without Walsh. Mikey Walsh who came on for Gary pointed for their third of the game.
Points from Eamonn Duff and Moore ended the scoring which left it at 0-12 to 0-3 to Ballyfin at the break.
Ballylinan needed a quick start and nearly got it, but Seamus Lacey was somehow denied a certain goal by Eoin Connolly in the Ballyfin goals.
Pauric McEvoy got Ballylinan up and running in the second half, but they couldn’t claw their way back into the game.
Moore and Dunne traded points and that was to be the last Ballylinan score in the game. Darragh Pendergast added another score for Ballyfin, and the only question was how much Ballyfin were going to win by.
The last quarter was all about Moore, however, as he added another free before he got his first goal as a kickout went wrong, with Moore lobbing the keeper to put the game beyond doubt.
Ballylinan’s misery was compounded shortly after, with Robbie Donoher given his marching orders with two yellow cards.
Moore would add two more points with a Ciaran Quinn point in between. Moore then would finish the game with a brilliant individual goal to round off a brilliant victory to secure Senior football for 2025.
