Second-half scoring spree sees St Brigid's get their hands on the Intermediate Championship

St Brigid's have been crowned Hyland Transport Laois Intermediate Camogie champions after a superb final 20 minutes saw them claw back a four-point deficit to win by eight points in the end.

They'll now go forward to represent Laois in Leinster next weekend where they'll be away to the Carlow champions.

St Brigid's 2-14

Camross 1-9

St Brigid's Eimear Hassett, who was the star of the show in the semi-final, opened the scoring for her side from a placed ball. Camross' first score of the game was almost a goal but Laura Dunne made a great save from Kirsten Keenan. Hassett pointed a second free to give her side an early two-point lead.

Camross' first score came from the hurl of Aimee Collier as she slotted over a 45'. Hassett replied with a third free before Collier rattled the back of the St Brigid's net. Andrea Scully went on a great run to spot Keenan inside and she played a great pass to Collier, who drilled the sliotar into the roof of Laura Dunne's net.

Seven minutes later, Aishling O'Dea looked to be through on goals but Camross' Aoife Burke took one for the team and received a yellow card for bringing down O'Dea outside of the square. Hassett stepped up to point the resulting free. O'Dea raised a white flag to get St Brigid's first score from play after 21 minutes.

Andrea Scully and Hassett (free) traded points to leave St Brigid's a point up but Camross would go into the dressing rooms two points up as Collier, Lynda Keyes and Grainne Delaney all split the posts. Camross led 1-5 to 0-6 at half-time.

Hassett got things going in the second-half with Grainne Delaney replying for her second score of the contest. Collier pointed two more frees to push them four points ahead with 20 minutes to play but this was when St Brigid's finally started playing camogie and scored a remarkable 2-5 to put the game beyond Camross.

Hassett pointed for the first time from play while O'Dea raised a second white flag. They were then awarded a penalty after Jessie Quinlan was fouled in the square by Sarah Anne Fitzgerald. Hassett stepped up and dispatched the penalty into the top-corner giving Aedin Lowry no chance in the Camross goal. Hassett pointed two more, one from a 45' with a score from captain Grainne Hyland in the middle of them. Substitute Amy Daly came off the bench to get their second goal as she blasted the ball past Lowry.

Camross were now down by seven points and knew that goals would be needed but the clock was against them. Sarah Anne Fitzgerald struck a 21-yard free in an attempt to get a goal back but it was saved over the bar by Laura Dunne. St Brigid's got the game's final two scores as Jessie Quinlan scored a superb point from long-range and Aiva Coss made sure of the win in the 2nd minute of injury time.
