Tommy Fitzgerald and his Laois Senior hurlers are awaiting confirmation on the status of Sunday’s crucial Allianz Hurling League Division 1B clash with Antrim after The Irish Examiner reported that a gastric bug has swept through Davy Fitzgerald’s squad. Up to 12 Antrim players are believed to be affected, raising uncertainty over their ability to field a team at Corrigan Park.
Laois sit one point behind Antrim but have played two fewer games. A win on Sunday would guarantee Laois’ Division 1B status for next season, while a defeat would leave them needing victories in their final two games against Carlow and Dublin to avoid relegation.
It is understood that Antrim will contact the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) regarding their situation. Laois will also have to be informed, as they are likely to have already made travel arrangements for the trip to Belfast.

Despite the illness in the camp, Antrim are still expected to fulfil the fixture, as GAA league regulations do not allow postponements due to sickness. If they are unable to field a team, Laois would be awarded the points and Antrim would be relegated.
