The Laois Minor Camogie team have a shot at national silverware on Sunday afternoon as they prepare to take on Antrim in the Electric Ireland Minor ‘A’ Shield Final.
Having lost to Kildare in the 2024 Leinster Minor ‘B’ Final after extra-time, Laois set up a rematch in this year’s All-Ireland semi-final, and this time, they came out on top. A 2-9 to 1-10 win in the LOETB Centre of Excellence was enough to send them through to the final.
Earlier in the campaign, Laois had accounted for Carlow (1-9 to 0-6) and Offaly, with their 3-6 to 0-12 win over Offaly also serving as a quarter-final. The ability to grind out tight victories has been a key trait of this side, and they’ll need every ounce of that resolve for the final test.
Their opponents, Antrim, are unbeaten and have looked ruthless at times. Wins over Kildare, Derry and Waterford in the group stage set the tone, and they cruised past Waterford again in the semi-final, running out convincing 2-13 to 1-4 winners.
It promises to be a fascinating contest between two well-drilled outfits who have grown in belief with each outing.
Laois face Antrim in UPMC Nowlan Park, Kilkenny this Sunday, April 27 at 2.30pm. The Leinster Express / Laois Live will have a live blog from the game. Tickets are available here. The game will also be streamed on Electric Ireland's YouTube page.
