No joy for Laois sisters in GAA Handball Leinster Finals

In the Ladies Handball Leinster Singles Finals played last weekend in Garryhill, Laois had two representatives with Cullohill sisters, Orla and Úna Brophy, both in action. Orla faced the formidable challenge of Katie Jordan of Kilkenny in the Ladies' minor final, while Úna had an equally difficult assignment when pitted against the very talented Cora Doyle of Wexford in the junior final.

In the minor final, Orla showcased plenty of skill and determination, but victory was to go the way of the Kilkenny handballer who deservedly took the minor title in two games. Despite the loss, Orla once again demonstrated her ability to match the very best players in the country and will be optimistic of following in her older sisters’ footsteps in challenging for Leinster and All-Ireland titles in the years to come.

The Ladies Junior Final was expected to be an intriguing battle with Orla Brophy and Cora Doyle both in excellent form going into this final. On the day, it was the Wexford handballer who came out on top, playing some superb handball to record a 21-14, 21-11 victory. Úna won’t be too disheartened with the loss as she performed very well on the day and once again demonstrated that she can compete at the very highest level of the game. She will hopefully be able to build upon this performance when she enters the All-Ireland series, which will take place over the next couple of weeks.
