The Laois Camogie team have made it two wins from two in this year’s Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Premier Junior Championship.
Following up their eight-point victory over Wicklow in Portlaoise, they travelled west and delivered a clinical performance to see off Roscommon comfortably.
Laois 4-11
Roscommon 0-12
Kirsten Keenan got Laois off the mark with Tara Naughton replying with a free for Roscommon. Eimear Hassett then pushed Laois ahead again before Naughton pointed a second free for the hosts. Then came Laois’ first goal as Susie Delaney rattled the back of the net before a third free from Naughton.
Laois surged further ahead with three points in a row, Keenan added her second before Aimee Collier opened her account with two frees. Ciara Kilcommons got Roscommon’s fourth point, but Collier soon added a goal to her tally before following up with another free and a point from Keenan. The third Laois goal arrived before the break, as Collier netted again to leave them 3-7 to 0-4 ahead at half-time.
The second half continued in a similar vein. Keenan added her third point and Kaylee O’Keeffe chipped in with her only score. Collier then completed her hat-trick to push Laois further clear, 4-9 to 0-4. Roscommon rallied slightly with three scores in a row, two from Celine Gacquin and a 45 from Naughton.
Collier pointed another free but Naughton kept plugging away, adding four more frees before the end. However, Laois remained untroubled and closed out the game with another Collier free before Ciara Kilcommons responded with a consolation point for Roscommon. A strong all-round showing from Laois sees them firmly in control of their group with two wins from two. Laois will welcome Louth at home next weekend.
