Messages have of congratulations have been sent from Laois to Tipperary GAA hurling captain and Portlaoise-based garda Ronan Maher on winning the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final in Croke Park.

Maher was selected at centre-half back but spent most of the game at full back where he gave a man of the match defensive performance especially in the marshalling of Cork sharp shooter Ronan Hayes.

Apart from his playing performance, he led the team as captain, representing his home club in Tipp Thursles Sarfields. This meant he had the honour of lifting Liam McCarthy after his county pulled of a shock but comprehensive win over the Rebels.

His performance also won him the Sunday Game Man of the Match Award.

The popular community garda in Portlaoise had plenty of Laois messages wishing him well before the final. These have been followed by congratulation messages in the wake of the 2025 decider in GAA HQ.

These were led by Laois Offaly Garda Division. MORE BELOW PICTURE.
