Rathdowney-Errill’s second team are preparing for the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Final, and captain Marc Treacy says spirits are high following their semi-final victory over Mountmellick.
"The mood's been good in the camp so far. We just have to keep working like we have been all year and keep the vibes up, and hopefully we can push on now and get the final done as well," Treacy said.
Rathdowney-Errill have already beaten their final opponents, Ballyfin, earlier in this year’s championship. However, Treacy knows that form counts for little when it comes to a County Final.
"I suppose you can and you can't. You can never really tell. It all happens on the day. As you know, County Finals are completely different games than any other game, so we won't be taking that for granted. We'll just have to show up on the day and keep doing what we’ve been doing and hopefully we'll pull out the win," he said.
The final was rescheduled due to Colt-Shanahoe and Rathdowney-Errill having to replay their quarter-final after an early whistle ended the first game prematurely. Treacy says the journey to the decider hasn’t been straightforward.
"We've had a harder run than most teams this year to get to it because of the replays and not knowing what's going on. We're always confident in our own ability. There's a good squad there behind us and a nice team there. We were confident enough to be fair," Treacy added.
When asked where he sees the final being decided, Treacy believes Rathdowney-Errill’s forward line could make the difference.
"Our forwards, maybe, we have a very strong forward line there. There are big names on our team, and if they turn up on the day and stay doing the way they've been hurling all year, that could be the deciding factor in the game," he said.
Treacy also praised the management duo, Paddy Bergin and Mick Cleere, for their guidance and commitment throughout the year.
"It’s extremely important; it’s the same as any management. They've kept us on the straight and narrow all year, turning up there every day and every week, giving up their own free time and are very good at doing their job," Treacy ended.
