PREVIEW: Laois Camogie look to extend unbeaten run as Laois footballers battle Westmeath

Camogie side looking to continue strong start while footballers face tough challenge

It’s a busy Saturday for Laois GAA with both the senior footballers and Camogie team in action. The Camogie side travel to Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA Club to face Meath in Round Three of the Centra Division 2 League, while Justin McNulty’s footballers host Midlands rivals Westmeath at Laois Hire O’Moore Park.

Laois Camogie come into the game unbeaten, having earned a point against Kerry before an eight-point win over Derry, while the footballers are desperate for a win after a narrow defeat to Clare last weekend.

Laois Camogie in Division 2 action

The Laois Camogie team make the trip to Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA Club on Saturday to face Meath in Round Three of the Centra Division 2 Camogie League.

Laois come into the game unbeaten from their first two matches. They earned a point away to Kerry, last year’s All-Ireland Intermediate finalists, before defeating Derry at home in Abbeyleix by eight points. Captain Aimee Collier has been in sensational form, scoring 1-21 from Laois’ total of 2-25 in the opening two games.

Meath have one win and one loss so far, defeating Westmeath in their opener before falling to Kerry last weekend. A victory for Laois on Saturday would put them in a strong position for promotion from Division 2, with games remaining against Carlow and Westmeath to finish the campaign.

Meanwhile, Justin McNulty’s Laois senior footballers host Midlands rivals Westmeath at Laois Hire O’Moore Park, with a 6pm throw-in.

Laois have had a tough turnaround, playing just six days after their defeat to Clare in Ennis, which included over 50 minutes with a man down. Currently sitting second from bottom in Division 3, Laois have three points from four games and face tricky away trips to Enniskillen and Newry to end their campaign.

Westmeath, second in the table on six points behind leaders Down, defeated Laois by 17 points in their last meeting in the 2025 Tailteann Cup. A win on Saturday would provide a vital boost ahead of those remaining away fixtures, while a defeat could leave Laois needing maximum points from both games to maintain their Division 3 status in 2026.
