Trumera booked their place in the semi-finals of the Laois IHC on Friday night last thanks to a five point win over Clonad in Raheen.
They lead for pretty much the entire game, with Clonad only threatening them briefly in the early stages of the second half.
Clonad took an early lead through Kevin Bergin, but that would be the only time they would be ahead in the game. Trumera drew level through a Niall Sinnott free, and took the lead six minutes later thanks to a point from Conor Mason.
Another five minutes would pass before another score was registered, and it was a crucial one for Trumera. Joey Coogan saw his shot saved by Clonad ‘keeper James Farrell, but Ronan Kavanagh was on hand to sweep the ball to the net from close range.
Coogan then added a point before Clonad got their second score, a long range effort from Seoirse Conroy. There was no stopping Trumera, however, and with Clonad struggling for any kind of fluency to their game, Trumera took full advantage.
Conor Mason tapped over his second point from the left wing, with Niall Sinnott adding a free moments later. Trumera almost had a second goal in the 23rd minute, as Eddie O’Connor fielded a long ball on the edge of the penalty area before unleashing a powerful shot, which James Farrell did incredibly well to turn over the bar.
That opened up a seven point lead, but Clonad got it back to five before half time with points from Martin Norton and Míchael Kerr, leaving the score 1-6 to 0-4 at the break.
Clonad got a dream start to the second half when Kevin Bergin’s ball into the square broke kindly for Joe McEvoy, and he duly dispatched the ball to the net. Míchael Kerr added a point from distance a few minutes later to leave just one point in it, but Trumera eased the pressure with a NIall Sinnott free.
Clonad got back to within one again with a poitn from Kevin Bergin, but that was as good as it got for them, as Trumera responded with thre point in a row.
They could even afford to point a penalty in the 52nd minute after Joey Coogan was hauled down, and they kept Clonad at arms length for the rest of the game to run out deserving five point winners in the end.
