Ballyfin NS had just one point to spare over Our Lady's Meadow PS from Durrow after this thrilling girls Division 4 final last Wednesday in O'Moore Park.
Ballyfin had gotten off to a bright start, as they got the first two points of the game through Orla Horgan and Fial Dalton. Durrow looked to be struggling at this stage, but that was soon dispelled when they rattled the back of the net twice in quick succession.
The first came from Shannon Kelly courtesy of a neat finish, while Valerie Daly got the second to put Durrow into the lead. Ballyfin showed no signs of panic though, and Orla Horgan and Eva Cullinan tapped over a point each before a goal in the 18th minute from Horgan gave her side the lead. She added another point from a free, and at half time Ballyfin found themselves narrowly ahead, 1-5 to 2-0 the score.
When play resumed for the second half it was Durrow who retook the lead in this seesaw of a game, as Valerie Daly tapped over a point before Aislinn Townsend got her team's third goal to put two between the sides.
As had been the case throughout this game, the lead soon swung the way as Eva Cullinan pointed and Chloe Bergin got Ballyfin's second goal, with the tension ratcheting up another few notches.
Durrow looked to have done enough to seal the win after that however when they rattled off a number of unanswered points to lead 3-5 to 2-6 with time almost up. However, they couldn't hold on as Ballyfin came up with a dramatic winner, when Eva Cullinan got the vital touch on the ball in a frantic penalty area to settle the game.
