Laois GAA have been given a considerable financial boost in their bid to complete the contruction work at the new Centre of Excellence, after receiving over €90,000 in Sports Capital Funding.
The announcement came from minister Charlie Flanagan, with Laois Athletics also in line to receive a further cash boost.
In total, Laois GAA will receive €91,500 to develop a state of the art indoor gym facility at the Laois Centre of Excellence
Laois Athletic County Board will receive €6,000 for the purchase of sports training equipment.
Minister Flanagan was speaking as the successful applications under the second round of Sports Capital Grants were announced this afternoon. He stated. “This €4 million is on top of the €56 million announced for local projects in November, bringing the total 2017 sports capital allocations to €60 million nationwide.
"I am delighted to see this much needed funding going to the places it will really make a big difference, our local sports clubs.
“This funding will benefit 53 clubs all over our county. Active engagement in sports not only helps keep young people healthy, but also builds confidence, independence and promotes team building."
In total, a variety of clubs and organisations in Laois have shared over €1.1m in Sports Capital Funding in the two rounds of funding announced over the last few weeks.
