After a blank weekend it was back to normal service on the playing fields and Camross entertained Shanahoe-Ballypickas in Round 2 of the Palmer Cup, which they are defending, and next weekend they are scheduled to play Abbeyleix in Round 3. Last weekend the meeting with Castletown Gaels was a victim of bad weather conditions.
County Board Draw
On Wednesday night Camross had 322 in the drum for the County Board fundraiser but unfortunately no Camross names were in the winner’s enclosure, but as one 'wag' suggested, Camross had used up all their luck on the playing fields last year. The next draw takes place on April 4th
The eagerly awaited draw for the Laois Senior Championship took place in the Laois Shopping Centre last Thursday night, and in what has been dubbed the Group of Death, Camross are paired in a group with Clough-Ballacolla last year’s beaten finalists, Rathdowney-Errill beaten finalists of 2016, also with near neighbours Castletown-Slieve-Bloom Gaels.
The intermediate team face Park-Ratheneiska-Timahoe Gaels and the Junior B team face the same opposition in the opening round. Junior C team play Clough-Ballacolla. The U-21 team have a bye and will meet either Borris-Kilcotton or Raheen Parish Gaels. The new U-19 championship will see Camross in a group alongside The Harps, Clough-Ballacolla and Portlaoise.
In football new Junior B champions Errill will provide first round opposition. All in all a lot of work from now till October, and if half as successful there will be no complaints. Best wishes to all involved.
