Laois Ladies U-14s wrap up Leinster glory with impressive display

The Laois U-14 team which defeated Kilkenny.

Laois U14 girls finished off their year in style with a comprehensive win over Kilkenny in Graiguecullen. Jess Whelan was the stand out player with a very impressive 2-5 on the night.

Laois 3-17

Kilkenny 4-3

Laois got off to dream start with a goal from Jess Whelan coming from their first attack. Kilkenny however responded quickly with a goal of their own to level matters.

Laois kicked two points to edge ahead but Kilkenny hit a real purple patch and struck with two goals in quick succession to really test Laois’s resolve. They didn’t panic and kept the scoreboard ticking over to gradually reel Kilkenny back with fine scores from Kayla Darcy and Jess Whelan.

Kilkenny went in at half time with a one point lead 3-2 to 1-7. As in all of Laois’s games this year they came out in the second half and stamped their authority on the game. They not only levelled the game in the first two minutes but they powered ahead with some lovely football, led by their captain Koren Dunne who scored an inspirational point from full back.

They managed to keep Kilkenny scoreless for most of the half only conceding a goal and point late on. Laois ran out comprehensive winners on a score line of 3-17 to 4-3.

This was an excellent team performance with Laois scoring an impressive 3-14 from play and it’s hoped that this team can bring more success to Laois as they move up the age groups.
