Daithi Carroll, The Heath.
Daithi Carroll led The Heath to a fantastic comeback victory against Graiguecullen in ACFL Division 1 on Thursday night.
The Heath 0-14
Graiguecullen were firmly in control after a very good first half, but The Heath were guilty of missing chances during the same periodl, and went in five points down at half-time.
It took seven minutes for the opening score as both teams missed chances at either end of the field. After a good move Dean Malone tapped over to give Graiguecullen an early lead. Aaron Forbes then added another point to put Graigue two up.
After a poor kick out by JP Nerney, Ross Hennessey then added another to put the home side three points up. After a scrappy period of play Ross Hennessey got fouled and scored the resulting free.
It took The Heath 15 minutes to open their account from a fine effort from Robbie Dowling. Ciaran Booth and then Daithi Carroll narrowed the gap to two, before a great save from JP Nerney crucially kept The Heath in the game.
From then on Graiguecullen seized the advantage with the impressive Brian Byrne coming to the fore by adding two points and Graigue led 0-10 to 0-5 at half time.
The Heath came out a new team in the second half, putting the first half behind them and as they rallied. Daithi Carroll led the comeback by adding four points, three frees and one 45. A great move from Graigue led to a free and they called up goalie Danny Bolger to take it, but he pulled it wide of the post.
Points from Andrew Booth and another Carroll point drew The Heath level with ten minutes to go. Then Robbie Dowling added another point and The Heath led for the first time in the game.
Deep into injury time Bolger added a point from a free which looked like the winner, but Daithi Carroll had the final say and added a further two points to his tally to earn The Heath an important win to move them into joint second in the league.
