Clonaslee St Manman's open SHC 'A' campaign with win over Trumera

Clonaslee St Manman's opened their SHC 'A' campaign with a hard-fought win over Trumera in O'Moore Park this evening.

Clonaslee St Manman's 2-19

Trumera 2-11

Clonaslee made a solid start to the game, as John Rowney stroked over a couple of frees in the opening four minutes to settle them into the game.

Trumera hadn't threatened much at that stage, but Niall Sinnott's long ball forward fell kindly for Cathal Brophy, and he tapped it past James Young for an opening goal. John Rowney replied for Clonaslee with another free to level the scores, before Trumera had another goal.

There didn't seem to be much threat for them when James Young won possession in the penalty area, but he delayed making a clearance too long and Rhys Murphy whipped the ball away from him and into the net. Murphy then added a point moments later, and Trumera found themselves four ahead.

The lead didn't last long though, as Rory Conroy responded with a lovely point for Clonaslee before Patrick Hyland teed up John Rowney on the left side of the penalty area, and he hammered a shot to the top corner.

With the scores now level, both teams traded points for the next few minutes until a powerful run and finish from Michael Hyland for a Clonaslee goal saw them lead 2-7 to 2-4 at the break.

Trumera started the second half brightly, as Dylan Lalor (free) and Cathal Brophy pointed to get them within one of Clonaslee. The Clonaslee response was emphatic, hitting six of the next eight points to take a stranglehold on the game, with John Rowney and Ger Reilly to the fore.

They opened up a six point lead, and Trumera struggled to make meaningful inroads into that deficit.

Trumnera were then dealt a further blow when Cathal Brophy was shown a late red card for for a high tackle, as Clonaslee ran out comfortable, and deserving, winners.
