Barrowhouse to celebrate centenary
Busy Laois GAA club Barrowhouse is planning to set to celebrate 100 years this year.
To mark the centenary of its founding Barrowhouse GAA has formed a special committee to produce a book on the history of the club in words, photographs, and stories.
To accumulate material, generate interest in the public, and tap the combined knowledge of the community, it is planned to hold an exhibition of photographs, paper cuttings, and other relevant stories.
"We invite everyone to come along, and perhaps share a memory they have which might be of relevance to the club. Every snippet, every photograph, is of importance at this time even though you might consider it insignificant.
We appreciate the importance of historical photographs etc., so we would like to assure anybody who has such material, that copies will be taken of anything offered, and the original returned within a few days.
"Even if you think you have no material of relevance, do please come along. You might have a story or snippet of information that might be important in confirming or contradicting information already held. Let us know at this exhibition, as this could be helpful in compiling our centenary book. See you there and thank you in anticipation of your help," says the club.
If you have anything that might be of interest for the exhibition or something that we could include in our centenary book, please contact Pat Whelan (086 8597051), as soon as possible.
The exhibition takes place in Barrowhouse Community Hall on Sunday, April 7 at 2pm. Admission is free.
