On Tuesday last, February 14 Liam O’Neill, President elect of the GAA launched ClonasleeStManman’s Club Plan in the Community Centre, Clonaslee.
Liam is the first Laois native to become Uachtarán Cumann Luth Chleas Gael and the second Laois Primary Teacher after Bob O’Keeffe, a Primary Teacher in Borris-in-Ossory who was President of the GAA from 1935 to 1938.
It was an historic occasion for the local GAA club, to have a GAA president attend a meeting of one of the oldest GAA clubs in Laois. Also present at the launch were Tom Jones, County Development Officer, who had acted as a facilitator in the preparation of the Club Plan, Brian Allen Chairman Laois Co Board and Ciaran Leavy, Delegate to Leinster Council. An apology was received from Kieran Leddy ,Croke Park who had been at meetings of the steering committee and also at the first Club Plan workshop in October last.
The club website was briefly shown and an appeal was made for material old and new to be sent to the webmaster, particularly football medals to add to the medal collection on the website. The website address is www.clonasleestmanmansgaa.com
Jody Conway, the club Chairman welcomed the guests and the large attendance to the meeting and wished the President Elect all the best in his presidency.
Tom Jones and Brian Allen both congratulated the club on its comprehensive Club Plan which was named as “Pride in Our Past and Aspirations to the Future”. The President Elect GAA Liam O’Neill launched the Club Plan, wished the club well and remarked on the display of memorabilia around the walls, particularly referring to the programme of the 1915 All-Ireland. A grandchild of a sub on that team was actually in the room!
Jody Conway, Club Chairman then presented Liam with a memento of the occasion and the evening ended with elegant refreshments prepared by Ann Carroll, Mary Conroy and Ann McEvoy.
The Club Plan may be viewed on the Club Website at www.clonasleestmanmansgaa.com/clubplan/.
