Ballyfin held off a second-half Ballinakill resurgence to seal an impressive Palmer Cup Group B win in a close-fought affair in Ballyfin on Sunday afternoon.
Three first half goals proved to be the key for the men in green and even though the visitors did manage to edge past their opponents briefly in the second half, the gritty Ballyfin side got the run of scores needed to scrape past in the end.
It was a scrappy contest, particularly in the first half in which Ballyfin failed to register a point yet still went in leading at the break. Two goals from JJ McHugh and another from Paddy Hyland accounted for the sum total of the Ballyfin first half scoring,
