DJ Callaghan was the star of the show for Clonaslee as they claimed the Boys Division 3 title in O’Moore Park..
As well as scoring 2-6, including five frees taken from the ground, the talented player pulled the strings for his side.
Knock battled from start to finish with James Hennessy and Mark Kehoe to the fore but in the end their efforts came up just short against a strong Clonaslee side who had Josh Flynn and Ruairi Behan in fine form in the half-back line.
It was nip and tuck throughout the first-half with the teams matching each other score for score from the start. Kieran Hogan and Conor Fitzpatrick exchanged early points before DJ Callaghan hit the first of his scores with a sweetly struck free off the ground. Aaron O’Dea responded with a point for Knock but Clonaslee jumped into the lead with a goal from Callaghan.
Once again Knock came straight back with a goal from Mark Kehoe to get his side back on level terms. Before the break, Clonaslee edged ahead with two points from frees from Callaghan and they led by one after Darragh Cahill pulled one back for Knock.
The game turned decisively in the opening minutes of the second-half as Clonaslee hit 1-2 without reply. Ruairi Behan struck for the goal with DJ Callaghan hitting the two points. He almost had his second goal but he was denied by a great save by Liam Kehoe.
After Conor Fitzpatrick pulled a point back for Knock, Callaghan did strike for his second goal as he ran on to a lose ball before calmly slotting it, soccer style.
Knock pulled back two points late in the game through Aaron O’Dea and Mark Kehoe but while it closed the gap, it was not enough to overhaul Clonaslee’s advantage.
