In the only game over the two days to go to extra time, The Rock NS eventually saw off Castlecuffe NS in this Allianz Division 6 final.
It was a dramatic turnaround for the winners, as they trailed by three points in the last minute of normal time, only for Corey Fox to come up with a crucial goal to force extra time.
While The Rock celebrated, it was a tough defeat for Castlecuffe to take, but they can be very proud of their efforts.
There was no separating the teams in the early stages, as Becky Delaney put Castlecuffe in front with a point, and Chloe Shortall responded in kind for The Rock.
Delaney was on target again moments later, but Shortall was up to the task of restoring parity, as she popped over her second point.
The Rock then push clear after that, starting with another Shortall point, after two excellent saves from Castlecuffe’s Sarah Corbet denied them a goal.
The Rock’s goalkeeper, Caitlin Dunne, was herself having an eventful game, as she was moved up to the forwards, and she had a big impact. After a point from Corey Fox, Caitlin rattled the back of the net for a goal, as The Rock held a 1-4 to 0-2 lead at half time.
Castlecuffe dominated the second half, and they hit four points in a row to whittle The Rock’s lead down to one point. Becky Delaney then scored a goal for them, and a third point from Emily Corbet had them three points ahead with time almost up.
The Rock found the score they needed though thanks to Corey Fox, and that forced the game into extra time.
In added time, Chloe Shortall and Millie Bennett scored points for The Rock, with Caitlin Dunne added another goal, and despite the brave efforts of Castlecuffe, The Rock held on for victory.
