The boys Division 3 Cumann na mBunscol hurling final had plenty of action and first-rate skill on show, and as the scoreline would indicate, it was, for the most part, a one-sided game.
It didn’t take long for the scoreline to start ticking over as, in the first minute, Padraig Kirwan tapped over the ball from the left wing to give Emo their first score of the game. Cullohill could not have responded faster with the help of Evan Deegan, when he caught the ball straight from the puck out and was left alone to have the easiest of scores, as he fired over the bar from distance.
The first goal of the game came from a Cullohill player Jason Brennan who pulled on a ball in the square and he got his reward when it snuck past Emo ‘keeper Jason Woods to level the teams with six minutes gone on the clock.
The first half saw the play ebb and flow from one end of the field to the other, with both teams adding one more goal apiece before the half time whistle to leave the score to 1-6 to 2-2 at the half in Emo’s favour.
Emo came out at the start of the half all guns blazing ,scoring 1-5 on the trot with Jack Owens getting a goal in somewhat fortuitous circumstances, as the the sliotar deflected off his shoulder and somehow found the net.
Cullohill then had their five minutes of dominance, getting six scores without answer, but Emo’s scoring show in the first half really set an uphill battle for Cullohill to face, as they may have had more goals but Emos points tally was rising all the time.
Even though Conor Delaney and Rory Deegan added two more goals for Cullohill, at that stage there was already enough work done to see Emo to victory, as the school claimed a hurling and camogie double.
