A strong first half performance was the springboard to Mountrath’s success as they just about held on to take league honours over Borris/Kilcotton in Colt on Sunday.
ACHL Division 2 Final
Mountrath were the better side in the first half but were lucky to take a five point lead into the break as Borris/Kilcotton were guilty of over elaborate play and wasted chances on far too many occasions.
Mountrath were slow to start and had they been punished they might never have got going at all. As it was they opened the scoring and were leading 0-4 to 0-0 after ten minutes
Borris-in-Ossory/Kilcotton clawed their way back into the game but a goal for Mountrath before half-time was a crucial score.
Borris/Kilcotton came out a rejuvenated side in the second half and reduced the gap to the bare minimum with just under ten minutes remaining.
Mountrath were struggling badly but a super score against the run of play from wing forward Colm Linahan breathed new life into the team.
It was nip an tuck from there and while Borris-in-Ossory/Kilcotton had their chances, they just couldn’t close the gap.
