Laois GAA Digest (February 26)

It was great to see such a big turnout for the first night back training last Friday - and to see so many new faces. Training continues this week at 8pm in Vicarstown on Tuesday and again at the same time on Friday. All players are also asked to be in the field next Sunday at 2pm.

County Board Tickets

Annanough are currently selling the annual €130 county board tickets. As ever, this is the main source of income for the club for the year with €117 out every ticket, after we sell our quota, going straight to the club. Thanks to the very generous support of our supporters last year, we had a very successful sale in 2012 and we’ll be hoping for a similar return this time around. There are a number of ways of paying for the tickets - including a direct debit through the club that also includes club membership. Tickets are available from all club officials and your support, as ever, is greatly appreciated. As this is the last week to buy the county board tickets, we’d urge anyone who has tickets still to return, please do so as soon as possible.

Adult Training

Training continues Tuesday (today) for all footballers and hurlers from 17 years of age. All players to be on the field and ready to go for 7.25pm.

Adult membership for the year is €50 for those playing, and is due now. Non-playing membership is €30. Please make contact with club secretary Niall Keenan as soon as possible, 0876939909.

County Board Draw

Tickets are due back ASAP as the first draw is this Friday 1st March. This draw raises funds for a big part of our running for the year. So all members playing and non-playing are asked to make a big effort to sell/buy(share half) as many tickets as possible. Please contact Niall (087-6939909) or any committee member.

Ballyroan Abbey

Division 3 Playoff

The team had a relegation play off from 2012 against Portarlington last Saturday evening. This followed Ballylinans’ defeat by Port the previous week. The losing two teams would automatically drop to Division 4. The first half of the game was an evenly matched but low scoring event. Port opened their account with a point from a free. We followed with a point from Adrian McDonald from a free with Port answering with another point from a free. Dean Dempsey scored from a free and a point from play by Conor Bergin with Port finishing the first half with another point from play. The second half saw us come out with a flurry with Daire McWey quickly scoring a point but because of a couple of slip ups Port came away and scored four points unanswered and Daire McWeys’s second point at the end wasn’t enough to save us from relegation. Well done to Port but it was a good chance to see how the team played with plenty of potential for the future. Final score Port 0-8 Ballyroan Abbey 0-5.

County Board Draw

Tickets are now available from all committee members for this years all clubs county draw. This is a vital fundraiser for the club and we hope everyone will give the draw their full support. With almost a hundred cash prizes up for grabs spread out over four separate draws the tickets are great value for money at €130. They can be paid in instalments and information is available from any committee member.

Training continues on Tuesday and Thursdays at 8pm in Alan and Murph’s new place. The first game is the Kelly Cup game against Ballylinan this Sat at home at 4pm. Looking forward to the start of a new season. Would all players please submit their email to Noel or any committee member so they can receive regular updates over the coming season. Cheers.
