Green Party

Rosie Palmer signs on as the Green Party candidate in Laois witnessed by Returning Oficer Rory Hanniffy.

Rosie Palmer has officially declared for the Green Party in an against-the-odds campaign to win a seat in the crowded new Laois constituency.

Having contested the local elections in the Portlaoise area, Ms Palmer signed up at Courthouse for her second electoral outing of 2024 in the presence of Laois Constituency Returning Officer Rory Hanniffy ahead of the deadline on Saturday, November 16.

Ms Palmer was a candidate in Portlaoise Municipal District in June 2024 when she polled 295 first preference votes. While she polled respectably in the Ballinakill Abbeyleix area, she was not returned as councillor to Laois County Council.

Ms Palmer is Parliamentary Assistant to Minister of State Pippa Hackett who campaigned for votes in Laois when she contested the 2020 General Election in the Laois Offaly constituency.

Minister Hackett polled 3,494 last time out but was not returned to the Dáil. She did make it to the Seanad and was subsequently give a super junior ministry which has seen her sit at Cabinet meetings since then.

Ms Hackett is running in the new Offaly constituency this time around.

A total of 12 candidates are running in Laois for three seats at the General Election which takes place on Friday, November 29.
