FINAL TALLY - Clear picture emerges at Laois General Election Count

The final tally figures are showing Fine Gael's Willie Aird topping the poll with an impressive 9,136 first preference votes. 
Next is Fianna Fáil's Seán Fleming with 7,923, Brian Stanley 6,514, and Sinn Féin's Maria McCormack on 4,712.


Party performance 

Fine Gael - 24.6% 

Fianna Fáil - 22.5%
Sinn Féin - 12.6 %
Independent Republican 17.6 %
non party 16.1%
Green Party  2 %
PBP 2 %
Aontú 2.8%


The final tally is based on 98% of opened boxes - 112 out of 114. The tally is missing boxes from Rathdowney and St Vincent's in Mountmellick. 


The figures show the largest number of votes cast was in the Portarlington-Graiguecullen Municipal District with 12,914 votes cast, followed by Borris Mountmellick MD with 12,369 votes and the Portlaoise MD had the smallest number of votes at 12,072.
