The Junior Golf season at The Heath Golf Club was very busy this year with Junior Golf coaching taking place with resident PGA Pro golfer Mark O'Boyle and follow-up supervised practice with a dedicated group of volunteer men and women taking the juniors out on the course, or for putting and chipping practice.
The highlight of the year was the Junior Captain, Paddy Fitzpatrick's Prize held on August 9. 28 Juniors participated and were divided into categories to participate in a competition appropriate for their level. Tap NEXT or ARROW to see more images. See below photo for more information.
The winner of the Senior Boys group was Cormac Keegan, handicap (h/c) (16), runner-up Killian Christie h/c (9), and 3rd Paddy Fitzpatrick h/c (8). The winner of the Senior Girls was Eire Delaney, with runner-up Abi White. The winner of the Junior Boys was Aidan Maher and the winner of the Junior Girls was Mya Dunne.
On Wednesday last week, the third round of the Junior Sixes took place with teams from Portarlington, the Curragh, and the Heath participating. This is a new format where beginner juniors play 6 holes in a scramble format and teams must consist of two boys, and two girls with the remaining two being either boys or girls. This is a fun way for those without a handicap to gain the skills, learn etiquette, and learn the rules.
The Heath Juniors really enjoyed playing other courses, meeting other golfers and of course being presented with their certs and medals. Mya said, "it was nice playing with other people; the scramble format is great so if you have a bad shot, you play your partner's ball and it's nice playing as a team."
