Mild, rather breezy and cloudy conditions prevailed on Saturday last when golfers from all corners of the county descended on the elegant and challenging Heath G.C. to honour Laois Hurlers Golfing Society Captain, Liam Corby. A very competitive battle ensued, Philip Monnelly with a marvellous 43 points, just edging out John B Conroy. The battle for third and fourth was also a cliff-hanger, Jim Murphy pipping Frank Scott by the minimum margin. Declan Dunne smashed a tremendous drive down the 13th to take home the Longest Drive prize, while Gerry Kavanagh beat all comers to clinch the Nearest the Pin title.
This year the Ollie Fennell Trophy was won by the former Portlaoise and Laois star, Joe Keenan. This was an excellent achievement by Joe who demonstrated a great level of consistency, to deservedly come out on top. Next year, we are delighted and honoured to announce that John and Richie Moloney (Camross) have been elected Captain and President respectively of the Society. As the curtain closes on another season, the Society would like to say a huge thanks to Liam Corby for being a wonderful committed Captain of the Society. Thanks to all the players, young and old, who participated, looking forward to seeing everyone next year. Tap NEXT or ARROW to see more pictures.
