The Heath Golf Club had a second successful event at the National Ploughing Championships. The tent was erected by a group of volunteers, and the putting mats and putting aids were laid out.

Tickets were printed, and members volunteered to have the chat with the punters, sell tickets, and provide instructions on putting. The first day as everyone knows who was in Ratheniska was deluged and the whole site was a mud bath. The putting competition provided a bit of shelter and was a welcome diversion for plenty of youngsters – they certainly enjoyed having a go and were out for the craic.

Despite these putting aids being a real test of putting skills, a number of people managed to slot the ball into the hole, were refunded their raffle ticket price – and celebrated as if they had won the lottery. It was great to see several young people with single-figure handicaps, the future of the sport is assured.

Their charity partner for the three days was Laois Hospice and €530 was collected at the event. The Club would like to thank all who stopped by the tent and bought tickets, the funds raised are being used to improve our facilities and promote the sport for all. They'd also like to give thanks to those who contributed to the Hospice fundraiser.

The winners of the raffle were: First Prize- Simon Hartnett won a FBD Hotels voucher and €1000, 2nd Prize- Jenny Bowe from Portlaoise won two day tickets to Electric Picnic 2024, and 3rd Prize- Tony Goode from Dublin won €100.
