A very successful Laois Hurlers Captains Prize Outing took place in July at Rathdowney Golf Club. Despite concerns from Captain Philip Monnelly over the weather forecast, the day turned out beautifully, filled with friendly competition and camaraderie. The course was in excellent condition thanks to the dedicated efforts of the greenkeeping staff, with well-maintained fairways and meticulous greens providing the perfect setting for the event. The overall winner was former Castletown and Laois legend Mickey O’Sullivan, who delivered a steady and skilful performance throughout the day. Larry Phelan finished as runner-up, closely followed by Joe Keenan in third. Cathal O’Donnell claimed fourth place and also took home the Longest Drive prize, while Paul Delaney won the Nearest the Pin competition. Congratulations were extended to all the winners and especially to Captain Philip Monnelly for organising such an enjoyable outing. The Laois hurlers are next scheduled to take to the fairways on Saturday, August 30, when they travel to Portlaoise Golf Club.
