The fantastic achievements of two students from a Laois Offaly town were acknowledged at a ceremony at the weekend.

The two students from Colaiste Iosagain in Portarlington were awarded for achieving top Leaving Certificate Applied results in 2022.

Josh Donagher and Holly Hunter, both from Portarlington were among the few students that scored top marks in the country.

The award ceremony was held in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone on Saturday,  with Eamonn Quinn, son of Feargal Quinn presenting the awards.

Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) is a practical Leaving Certificate offering an alternative to the Leaving Certificate established (LCE)  that prepares students for the world of work.

Holly and Josh were accompanied by their parents and their LCA Co-ordinator Ms Jackie Kaye.

Ms Kaye has since retired from teaching after many years of dedication as a maths teacher and co-ordinator of the very successful LCA programme in the school.
