Irish Rail says services suspended through Portlaoise due to reports of a bridge strike have resumed.

The rail carrier had earlier stated that: “Services through Portlaoise are currently suspended due to reports that a vehicle has struck a bridge in the area.”

However, soon afterwards Irish Rail announced that services had resumed with some delays.

“Services have resumed through Portlaoise station after the earlier stoppage, some services through this station may experience delays as a result. The 15:25 Portlaoise/Heuston service is expected to depart shortly and is operating approximately 15 minutes behind schedule,” they stated.

Irish Rail has tendered for new bridge strike warning devices in Portlaoise to prevent high sided vehicles striking the town's railway bridges.
