A young girl has died following a road traffic collision in Portlaoise.
The girl, who is understood to be 3-years-old, is thought to have been involved in a collision with a vehicle in the Fairgreen Estate at around lunchtime.
She was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Gardai and emergency services remain at the scene of the collision. They said the road where the collision occurred has been closed.
Gardai at Portlaoise Garda Station, who have yet to confirm the death, are investigating the incident.
When contacted immediately after the incident earlier today they appealed for witnesses to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100.
