Storm Debi to hit Ireland on Sunday and Monday
Laois County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team has issued warnings for Storm Debi.
The Council warns people not to travel unnecessarily during Debi as severe and damaging winds are forecast.
“Laois is the subject of a Status Orange Weather Warning for Wind, in the period 2am to 12 noon, Monday 13th November,” the council stated.
“During this 10-hour period, some stormy westerly winds are likely across County Laois. Likely impacts include fallen trees, dangerous travel conditions and damage to overhead services.
"Please only undertake essential journeys in this period and exercise caution on the road network Sunday night through Monday Morning,” Laois County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team said in a statement.
The warning comes amid fears high winds could knock down trees and vulnerable structures, damage overhead lines and cause dangerous road conditions.
Met Eireann has warned that Laois will be among 16 counties on a Status Orange Wind Warning when the storm hits later tonight.
The national forecaster is warning of potential localised flooding and damage to vulnerable structures as a result of the high winds.
