Laois students recognised for academic excellence at TUS Athlone

Mountrath student Elaine Cuddy at the prestigious Dean’s Honours List ceremony.

The academic achievements of two students from Laois studying at the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), Athlone Campus, were celebrated at a prestigious Dean’s Honours List ceremony recently.


A total of 70 students, hailing from diverse disciplines within the Faculty of Business and Hospitality, were honoured for their outstanding achievements during the past academic year.

Among them was Alexandra Kuran from Mountrath who is in her second year studying for a Bachelor of Arts Honors degree in Accounting and Elaine Cuddy also from Mountrath who is in her first year studying for a Bachelor of Business Honors Degree in Digital Marketing.

The TUS Dean's Honours List, a hallmark of academic excellence, is bestowed upon students who maintain an exceptional first-class honour grade—equivalent to a 70% average—throughout their degree programme.  


Dr Michael Tobin, currently acting in the capacity of Dean of Business and Hospitality, the significance of the award, stating that it serves as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging students to strive for excellence in their chosen fields.


"The awards are a highlight of the academic calendar, and the response from both students and faculty to this esteemed accolade has been overwhelmingly positive," remarked Dr Tobin. 


"For past recipients, it has served as a catalyst for sustained academic engagement, while for others, it has ignited a fervent desire for improvement."


He underscored the importance of maintaining this high level of commitment throughout their academic journey, expressing his hope that the award will spur the awardees to continue their pursuit of excellence in both their studies and future careers.


Each awardee was presented with a certificate commemorating their exceptional academic performance.


As the ceremony drew to a close, Dr Tobin extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the awardees, wishing them continued success in their academic endeavours and beyond.
