Laois County Council said it has had an Anti-Fraud Policy in place since May 2007
Laois County Council has confirmed it has an anti-fraud policy in place. It follows the publication of a report last week that stated the local authority was one of seven across the country that does not have a fraud or corruption alert plan.
The report by The National Oversight and Audit Commission (NOAC) outlined that the aim of a Fraud and Corruption alert plan is to ensure the promotion of a culture of honesty and integrity which deters fraudulent activity within local authorities.
It stated that Laois, Fingal, Donegal, Offaly, Roscommon, Longford and Cork County Council did not have a plan and recommended one be put in place as soon as possible.
Responding to a query from the Leinster Express/Laois Live a spokesperson for Laois County Council said: "Laois County Council has had an Anti-Fraud Policy in place since May 2007.
"The Policy was updated in 2017 and 2019. The Policy was further reviewed and updated within the past year.
"The title of the Document is “Laois County Council Anti-Fraud and Corruption Policy”.
When contacted about this a spokesperson for NOAC said: "We have checked the responses received to our Survey on this matter and we can confirm that the Report is accurate and in accordance with those responses."
